Layangan Jatuh, Langit Terbang: Folk in the Present combines works of contemporary artists, local craftspeople, Rumah Tangga’s previous artists in residence, performance art and event documentation, field recordings, and artifacts from the construction of RT. This multi-faceted collection has been gathered with the intention of considering the meaning and value of folk (art), as a living concept and a guiding principle for seeing, doing, making, and collecting. The objects presented operate as tools for uncovering folk’s future in an increasingly globalized and commodified world. The inclusion of works of performance art highlights the impactful utility of the ephemeral and social.
